It is no longer news that millions of Nigerians are getting more interested in the freelance web development space, with hundreds of people going on to work with some of the biggest brands across the globe and making thousands of dollars in the process.

However, a lot of newbies in this space struggle with receiving money from clients outside the country, often making them discouraged, and sometimes, unwilling to pitch their talents to employers.

In this piece, we will show you some of the PROVEN channels to receive payments from anywhere in the globe from the comfort of your home in Nigeria.

  • Sendcash Africa: This service lets individuals send money to freelancers anywhere in the world with their Bank cards, Bitcoin, Apple Pay or Cash app. As a Nigerian, you can then withdraw your funds through your local bank account here. This channel is relatively seamless and quick, with receivers getting their funds in about 24 hours.
  • Payoneer: Another rather popular payment platform, this service is more useful for freelancers who operate accounts on freelance bidding sites like Fiverr and Upwork. It is quick (although the charges may be a bit on the high side), secure and easy to navigate. However, one major downside to this platform is, a freelancer will need to reach a certain earnings quota ($5,000) through other platforms (like Fiverr or Upwork) before they can request for a payment from a client through this means. This makes it rather limited, and better served for freelance websites.
  • Skrill: Skrill is a payment method that requires you to create a special wallet to receive payments. This wallet is built with an option that lets you receive payments directly into your bank account here in Nigeria, all you need to do is give your client your email address, and in no time, you can receive payments into your wallet from anywhere in the world.
  • Cryptocurrency: Yes, we all know how volatile the cryptocurrency market can be (the recent bear trends all but point to this) but it is still a relatively reliable means of receiving funds from international clients. For rather large payments, it is advisable you use Bitcoins, with different services like Luno, Buycoins, Blockchain and Coinbase letting users open e-wallets with them to store these cryptocurrencies.

While we have presented a number of trustworthy options for you, we definitely have not covered everything we can. So, if you know of any TRUSTED, RELIABLE payment platforms that are hitch-free, feel free to tell us about them in the comment’s section. Who knows? You may just be helping a desperate freelancer who’s at the end of his rope.
